What is the mission of Walking Museum?
Did you ever leave a museum unsatisfied because you didn't fully get to know the history of the artworks? At Walking Museum we definitely did, and think this is a real shame. We've made it our mission to change this and introduce people to artworks in an interactive way by bringing painted characters to life.
Walking Museum wants to bring famous paintings by Belgian artists from museums all over the world back home. Our first stop will be Damme, a charming medieval city near Bruges, where three reproductions of famous masterpieces by Pieter Bruegel the Elder: “The Dutch Proverbs”, “Mad Meg” and “The Battle Between Carnival and Lent” will tell you the story of local hero Tijl Uilenspiegel.
When art meets digital technology
Painted characters coming to life? Sounds like black magic, but in reality it is modern technology! Walking Museum will use the digital technology Augmented Reality to add a digital layer to our human reality.
Painted objects come to life through the Walking Museum application that anyone with a smartphone can download for free.
The paintings will be located on big panels around Damme in the public space. When you come across one, you simply open the application, point your smartphone at the panel and enjoy the stories that the characters on the painting will tell you!
